We reproduce on this page, and also on page 7, engravings from Les Annales Indus- elles, representing a high-speed automatic engine designed by Mr. Proell, of Dresden, Saxony. The engine possesses a number of interesting features which are very well shown in the illustrations, and hence require little explanation. The valve T is of the rotary type worked by the hollow eccentric-rod D. The valve is slightly conical, and is arranged beneath the cylinder. The manner of lubrication is plainly shown.
