Francis Barry & Sons, of Sowerby | pridge, England, have recently constructed a new erank-shaft turning lathe, which we | present in the accompanying ilustration, be- ieving it will be of interest to our readers, th from its design and its unusual dimen- jons. The lathe is provided with a com- ound slide-rest of the ordinary pattern, and three narrow rests for passing between the | throws of crank-shafts to cut them to proper | width and turn the journals. The narrow ests can, however, also be used for ordinary turning. It is obvious, however, that when either of the throws of a crank are being turned up, but two of the narrow rests can | be in use, because nothing about the crank- shaft runs true in the lathe save the one jour- ial whose throw and side faces are being turned. The slide-rests are each provided with automatic feed traverse or longitudinal feed, and with automatic cross-feed. There are two feed screws, one at the back and one at the front of the lathe, both receiving motion from the same pinion, as will be seen at the head end of the lathe…
